The 2024 edition of the Ford Escape should be in our showrooms early next year. In all likelihood, this model will be very similar to the current one, but this isn’t a bad thing—far from it. Attractive and competitively priced, the Escape offers several different powertrains and several different packages.
The Ford Escape has been successfully evolving for 23 years now. For 2024, the last year of its fourth generation, it will chiefly rest on its laurels. With an interior that’s already roomy, it also boasts a sporty exterior, which will likely be even more so, thanks to a few esthetic tweaks. Ford should confirm the details sometime soon. In any event, with or without a refresh, the Ford Escape is pleasing to the eye, with fluid lines, a sleek front fascia, svelte headlights, contrasting rocker panels and a large windshield and windows.
We expect that the 2024 Escape will handle as predictably as previous models, regardless of road conditions. Moreover, all-wheel drive will come standard on certain versions. Unless the automaker indicates otherwise, the Escape will be available with a variety of powertrains. These would include a turbo engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, a hybrid system and a PHEV configuration.
The 2024 Escape Hybrid should consist of the same basic elements, i.e. a 2.5 L inline-four engine, an electric motor, a 1.1 kWh auxiliary battery and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This combination produces 200 horsepower.
The internal combustion base model, on the other hand, produces 181 horsepower. The power climbs to 250 hp (280 lbf·ft) in the higher trim levels equipped with the 2.0 L inline-four EcoBoost turbo engine. As a result, performance and fuel consumption should remain respectable. The same goes for the maximum towing capacity (at 3,500 pounds).
In the cabin, the design of the Escape shouldn’t change for 2024, unless Ford specifies certain minor modifications. The curved dash with its projecting central section, featuring an 8-inch (or optional 13.2-inch) touchscreen will remain. As for the digital instrument panel, it will probably come standard, although the automaker has yet to confirm this development. The connectivity, infotainment and safety (Ford Co-Pilot 360) systems will undoubtedly be present, as well.
