The 2023 Ford Transit will likely be the sales champion in the van category—both in Canada and in Europe—considering that, from 2019 to 2022, it was more popular than all of its direct competitors combined!
Its success is the result of a winning formula, beginning notably with the arrival of the fourth generation in 2014, the year it took over for the memorable Econoline. Manufactured in the United States and designed for the North American market, this utility vehicle has evolved to satisfy an incredible range of needs.
One of the vehicle’s greatest strengths is that it’s available in multiple versions. In van configuration, the 2023 Ford Transit comes in no fewer than six different body formats, including wheelbases (3,300 mm and 3,750 mm), lengths (from 5,585 mm to 6,703 mm) and roof heights (low, medium and high), as well as functions, ranging from utility (2 seats) to team transport (5 seats) and passenger transport (15 seats max.). In chassis-cab configuration, there are three different available wheelbases.
As for gasoline powertrains, the Transit can feature either a 3.5 L 275 hp V6 engine or a fuel-efficient 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 turbo engine (producing 310 horsepower). Both come standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel drive is also an option. An electric powertrain (E-Transit) is available, as well, deploying 226 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. As in the past, the numbering 150, 250, 350 and 350 HD (with double wheels in the rear, not available on the electric version) indicates the various load capacities.
The 2023 Ford Transit isn’t lacking when it comes to cutting-edge equipment. Whether included or optional, nearly all of the usual driver assist features are on the menu: Pre-Collision Assist, Reverse and Side Sensing Systems, Adaptive Cruise Control and more. Also available is the SYNC 4 infotainment system with a 12-inch touchscreen and Ford Telematics (fleet monitoring via GPS tracking). Another example of state-of-the-art equipment: the E-Transit includes a 2.4 kW generator that can power small tools on the jobsite.
