The 2023 Ford Edge represents the fifth edition and second generation of the model. A dependable, safe, modern vehicle, this midsize SUV offers comfort and space. In terms of size, it fits nicely between the Escape and the Explorer in the Ford lineup. And for yet another year, its assembly is taking place on Canadian soil (at the Oakville, Ontario, plant).
Over the years, this sport utility vehicle has evolved progressively through a series of successive alterations and adjustments. Although the 2023 Ford Edge retains its family resemblance, it nevertheless displays a distinctive silhouette. The overall look is understated but elegant. A European influence is detectable in its styling, while certain optional design elements, including 20-inch wheels, a black grille and LED headlights, lend it a balanced, muscular appearance.
The powertrain boils down to two options. In the base model, there’s a 2.0 L inline-four turbo engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Ford offers a 2.7 L V6 turbo with an A7 transmission as standard equipment on the ST version or as an option on other versions. The first of these generates 250 horsepower (280 pound-feet of torque), while the second comes in at 335 hp and 380 lbf·ft. We’re also pleased to mention that all-wheel drive comes standard on all versions.
The 2023 Ford Edge has room for five occupants, with large, comfortable seats offering plenty of legroom and headroom. The well-appointed cabin—which is very chic in the ST version—is meant to be vast, with up to 2,000 liters in cargo volume.
It also boasts a full instrument cluster, with standard equipment including a 12-inch central screen and intuitive multimedia and connectivity systems (SYNC 4A, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and FordPass Connect). When it comes to safety, the Ford Co-Pilot 360 suite of technologies offers all of the alerts and driver assist features we have come to expect these days: cross-traffic, lane keeping, forward collision, blind spots, parking and more.
