At the 2020 Montreal International Auto Show, Ford officially presented the Ford Escape PHEV, the manufacturer’s first sport utility vehicle equipped with plug-in hybrid technology. This compact SUV will be the second of its kind on the North American market, competing directly with the highly popular Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and will soon be joined by the Toyota RAV4 Prime, which is anticipated to go on sale to the general public sometime next year.
The Ford Escape PHEV will be nearly identical to the gasoline model except for the cover concealing the electrical hookup on the outside and, on the inside, a slight modification to the dashboard to display information related to battery charge levels. It’s in the mechanical aspects that it will differ significantly from the rest of the Ford lineup.
The all-new Ford Escape PHEV will feature a 2.5 L 4-cylinder Atkinson gasoline engine, which, in combination with an electric motor, will produce an impressive 221 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. In all-electric mode, it will offer a range of nearly 48 kilometers, giving it a slight edge over its rival at Mitsubishi. So an owner working around 20 km from home will be able to rely solely on battery power for the commute to and from work. It hardly seems necessary to mention that this translates into substantial savings at the pump!
Pinard Ford is well-aware of the growing demand for compact plug-in hybrid SUVs on the part of Quebec consumers. That’s why we’re so excited to bring you this news. The Ford Escape PHEV is expected to arrive in Sainte-Julienne sometime in 2020, and we’ll soon have information for you regarding the official pricing, so stay tuned.
