The veil has finally been lifted on the new 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid. And everyone around us is thrilled.
A new style for the interior. Ditto for the exterior. Improvements across the full range of engines and several new features. As usual, the manufacturer with the blue oval doesn’t disappoint.
Among the new developments, the hybrid powertrain of the 2021 Ford F-150 really stands out. Ford may not be the only one to add electrification to its production line. But it’s the first to do it in a timeless classic pickup like the F-150.
The pickup will offer a full hybrid system. This means that it will run on gasoline alone, electricity alone or a combination of the two. It will toggle automatically between the three modes depending on driving conditions. At different times, GM has offered full hybrid versions of its GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado, but took them off the market with this generation.
The system will also offer a 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 turbo engine. It’s combined with a 3.5 kWh electric motor integrated into the 10-speed automatic transmission. Then there’s a 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. It’s recharged through regenerative braking, capturing the kinetic energy that would otherwise be lost during deceleration, thus completely eliminating the need to plug in this 2021 Ford F-150.
This new powerhouse remains a workhorse. Especially since the interior work surface has been redesigned and improved. A full third of Ford F-150 owners use a laptop or tablet while they’re in their pickup. Now the gear lever can be folded flat, while the console cover folds forward to form a flat surface.
